The Rock Student Ministries
WHAT'S HAPPENING @ THE ROCK:
- ARE YOU SAVED? This was the question we asked on April fool's day. My prayer is that we are not the ones fooled. Jesus says in Matthew 7 there will be many who are fooled into thinking that they are saved only to hear Jesus say on Judgment day that "I never knew you". Check out this 1hr long video from Paul Washer and strap on your seatbelts! Pray that God will reveal His truth and the urgency of the question...are you saved? Click here for the video
- THE BLOG IS HERE! We have set up the new blog for our church. Click on this link to get to the youth category of our blog or go to the side menu and click on YEFC Blogosphere to read any and all blogs from our chuch. This blog will let you join in on some discussions, see updates on some happenings and hopefully provide opportunities to grow in Christ as we "meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways." - Ps 119:15.
- VBS planning is Sunday night 5/4 @ 6:30 at the church. Start thinking about your summer and if you would like to help out with our VBS! You teens put on the Vacation Bible School each summer. The week long VBS is a great ministry to the young kids in our community by sharing the gospel of Christ. You students also stay together for a summer leadership camp during the VBS week and have a time of growth as a leadership team and in your own personal walk with Christ. We hope you will join us!
DO HARD THINGS!!
Our culture has very low expectations for teens…and teens are accepting these expectations and meeting them. This is the reason why 19 year olds Alex and Bret Harris have begun a teen blog site called the TheRebelution.com According to the web site…“The official definition of the 'rebelution' is "a teenage rebellion against the low expectations of an ungodly culture. In Luke chapter 6 Christ Jesus tells us to do some hard things...things that our culture does not expect from teens. Things like loving your enemies, doing good to those who curse you, giving to all who ask without expecting anything in return. If we do some of these kind of hard things than Jesus says our reward will be great! But we cower all too often to the low standard of our culture like getting back at those who curse you, ignoring those who ask of you, hating your enemies, looking out for yourself first. This generation is ready to rethink what teens are capable of doing and becoming…even if it's more difficult.
If we only do what we have always done
we will only get what we have always got.
we will only get what we have always got.
This is why Jesus said, "If you do good to those who do good to you…or...if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you?” What reward is there in that? What a waste of a life to just do what is expected of you by the world around you. I believe Jesus Christ had more in store for us than that. “The Rebelution” is asking some serious questions about teen life today. What would our lives look like if we set out on a different path entirely--a path that required more effort but promised a lot more reward?”
Students and parents alike, take a look at www.TheRebelution.com. You will be challenged to live above the culture, doing hard things to the glory of God and for the sake of the gospel. We will be going to the DO HARD THINGS conference in Portland, OR on May 3, 2008. Check out the conference video below.
“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” (1 Timothy 4:12)
